A creative, classy, and highly refined "symphonic metal" outfit from Holland, the Gathering debuted with 's Always, a fairly straightforward death metal album with vocals by Marike Groot, although heavy use of keyboards made it stand out a bit from other such albums at the time.
In the mini CD Black Light District followed as a gift to the fans. In the release of Souvenirs was a new milestone in the Gathering's career. For this album the 5 musicians ultimately explored their composing skills over a 2-year recording process, which consumed virtually all powers of the band.
