BARRENCE WHITFIELD Vinyl Records and CDs With some of the best rock 'n' rollers in his band (at one time including Peter Greenberg of DMZ and Howie Ferguson of the Real Kids), Whitfield and his band keep alive absolutely crazed, piano-pounding, sax-heavy rock 'n' roll as it was known at the time of its birth.
Barrence Whitfield, born Barry White, hails from Jacksonville, Florida and has been honing his undeniable talents since joining a gospel choir as a child after moving to New Jersey. He’s been playing his own style of ‘raucous and rough’ 60s style since the 80s and had to change names as some cheeky scamp beat him to his own.
The latter has its moments, but is most decidedly not an album statement. New Rose also reissued Whitfield's debut on CD. With the Savages more or less idle, Barrence began working in a number of other settings. He contributed tracks to Merle Haggard and Don Covay tributes and recorded two albums with singer/songwriter Tom Russell.
Mar 02, · out of 5 stars Overdue reissue of vinyl only Barrence classic Reviewed in the United States on February 27, This is a handy collection consisting of Barrence Whitfield and the Savages' never on CD second album, Dig Yourself, and tracks that were recorded for a Europe only mini album that later ended up on their third domestic album Ow!/5(6).
Captures Barrence and the Savages on a good night. The place to start, in my opinion. If you like it, you'll get the first three albums, which have been reissued. All are heartily recommended, but this is where I got on the bus. If you dig Little Richard, Esquerita and fifties style R&B and early rock and roll, you will too/5(3).
